Why is writing important ?
Because writing is an essential life skill.
Writing is about expressing who you are, what you think, how you feel, and your ideas about the world around you.
Writing helps sharpen your power of observation.
Writing well is a key to future academic and professional success.
Creative writing can be an extracurricular activity that sets you apart.
The new Common Core Standards emphasize both literary and informational texts and three main purposes of writing -- to persuade, to explain, and to convey experience -- for students Grade K to Grade 12.
Who am I ?
Yale University and Wellesley College graduate.
Published author. My first novel was published by Random House's Knopf Doubleday, the Nan Talese Imprint, in 2007.
I love being a mom. My daughter is 16 years old.
I find tremendous meaning in fostering creativity and helping children grow their writing skills.
Recently, one of my students won first place in the San Jose Public Library Poetry Contest, another won Honorable Mention for the New York Times writing contest, and multiple student opinions were featured in the New York Times Learning Network. Previously, one of my students won first prize in writing at an area private school while another’s story was selected for a Young Author Award.
How ?
Write. Write. Write every day.
Read. Read. Read everything.
A good writer is always a good reader.
A good writer is diligent in revising and editing.
Experience and reflect.
Reflection helps a child garner insight.
Good writing = command of language + insight.

Hello Parents, I'm very excited to be teaching your children English writing this year. This broad curriculum aims to familiarize children with various rhetorical modes and help them write to explain, persuade, and convey experience. My goal is to teach children and teens writing by involving them in funwriting projects. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have questions. Thank you.
